tonhalleLATE with Paavo Järvi and Stimming

Cellist Sol Gabetta plays and presents. And music producer Stimming delves into the world of Finnish mythology.

In the first part of the evening, Sol Gabetta plays the Cello Concerto No. 1 by Camille Saint-Saëns, who was not only a composer, but also a poet, astronomer, caricaturist and generally an original mind. The cellist herself is also very versatile: on this evening, she will also be performing as a presenter.

Our music director Paavo Järvi will then conduct a selection from the "Lemminkäinen Legends" by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. And the best thing about it: the omitted parts will then become the starting point for the electronic collaborations in the foyer. Music producer Stimming, who is in demand worldwide for his dubby minimal techno created with analogue equipment, joins forces with musicians from the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich. Together they accompany Lemminkäinen, a main character from the Finnish national epic "Kalevala", into the Tuonela, the realm of the dead - a world of darkness, beauty and danger. The journey is visualised by Kollektiv Packungsbeilage.
