Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich
Together with Music Director Paavo Järvi, we are continuing what has developed since the orchestra was founded in 1868.
Symphony concerts and family projects, masterpieces and rarities, famous soloists and young talents, huge ensembles and chamber music, traditional formats and innovative experiments: In our programmes, we explore the vast field of classical music in very different directions.
We
- are around 100 musicians from 23 nations and perform around 50 different programmes in over 100 concerts each season
- perform regularly in guest appearances, which have already taken us to over 100 cities in more than 30 countries
- in addition to orchestral projects, we also organise our own chamber music series, which we plan ourselves as musicians
- have been playing under our 11th Chief Conductor, Music Director Paavo Järvi, since 2019/20
- are proud to have David Zinman as our Honorary Conductor
- maintain close contacts with numerous important soloists and guest conductors
- have released over 60 CD productions
- have recorded critically acclaimed orchestral works by Messiaen (Diapason d'or 2019), Tchaikovsky (Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik 2020, Diapason d'or de l'annee 2021) and Adams (Diapason d'or) in our first CD projects with Paavo Järvi. We are also delighted to have been awarded the European Culture Prize 2022.
- have been playing in the lavishly renovated and acoustically outstanding Tonhalle Zurich since the 2021 season
- can always be found elsewhere in the city - in galleries, museums or at tonhalleAIR in the Münsterhof courtyard
After four seasons based at the Tonhalle Maag in the Zürich-West district, we are playing once again in the lavishly renovated Tonhalle Zürich since the beginning of the 2021/22 season. Our central concert hall, the Grosse Tonhalle, is internationally renowned for its outstanding acoustics.
