Launching Gustav - Photo review

Beer with viola

A toast was raised at Bierwerk Züri - and music was played.

Sometimes things turn out bigger, better and more fun than they were originally planned. That's what happened with our collaboration with Bierwerk Züri: it came about as part of our "In Tune With ..." project, for which musically inspired products are developed in shops and restaurants. We already had ice cream, wine, cheese and all sorts of other products, but now we wanted to add a beer.

And this beer has now released unexpected energies. There were the orchestra members Elisabeth Harringer-Pignat, Peter McGuire and Seth Quistad, who, as beer connoisseurs, not only helped to develop the blend, but also helped to brew it. There was Gianmaria Stelzer, a violin maker with his own workshop in the Bierwerk Züri building, who was working on a viola for Antonia Siegers-Reid and was enthusiastic about the idea of adding wood shavings as a special ingredient. And when the beer was given a name - it's called Gustav, because of the orchestra's current Mahler cycle - graphic designer Kezia Stingelin came into play, designing a beautifully colourful beer mat on which she simply put a beer glass in Mahler's hand. In short, many people had so much fun with the project that they wanted to celebrate the launch in style.

So on 13 November, around 200 people gathered at Bierwerk Züri to toast to and with Gustav. The co-brewers from the orchestra provided musical entertainment with a string quartet and a brass quintet, the pizza was delicious and the atmosphere was exuberant. The photos tell the rest.

And, by the way: Gustav is now available at the Tankbierbar in Europaallee.
