About the Love of the Cello and the Tonhalle Zurich
After a fantastic concert, we met Kian Soltani, who completely captivated us not only with his virtuoso cello playing, but also with charm and wit.
The first klubZ experience of the new season was a kick-off in a class of its own in more ways than one. Not only was it the season-opening concert with focus artist Kian Soltani on 14 September 2023, but the Bring-a-Friend promotion took place once again. Like last year, our members brought many new faces. The lounge above the concert foyer was packed when Kian Soltani honoured us with a meet & greet after the concert.
The Austrian cellist with Persian roots had previously enchanted us with Robert Schumann's Cello Concerto in A minor op. 129. The soft sounds of his instrument had also lulled us straight into dreamland because of the encore, "Abendlied" by Schumann, which Kian Soltani gave together with the orchestra. Thanks to the contrasting Symphony No. 9 in D minor by Anton Bruckner, masterfully played by the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich under the baton of Paavo Järvi, we were wide awake again when Kian Soltani answered our questions. He talked about what it's like to be on stage with his own father (who makes who nervous remains between us), how he came to play the cello and learned to love it (he wanted to be as cool as his older cousin who already played the instrument) and which concert hall he loves to play in the most (the Tonhalle Zurich, of course!).
Many thanks to Kian Soltani and our members for a wonderful start to the season. We can hardly wait for the next klubZ experience!
