An evening with Mahler
First a monumental work, then an atmospheric aperitif: that was the gala concert of the Freundeskreis Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich.
The reception for the guests at the Tonhalle Zurich was glamorously decorated: A purple gala carpet, matching the mystical atmosphere of Mahler's Symphony No. 7, led visitors through the inviting entrance area. The colour-coordinated floral decorations and stylish lighting created a festive atmosphere.
Dr Thomas Sauber, President of the Freundeskreis, opened the evening with a warm speech on stage. He emphasised the successes of the past year, including the donation of a new Steinway grand piano, and thanked the members for their generous support. Ilona Schmiel, Director of the Tonhalle-Gesellschaft Zürich, then introduced the audience to the monumental work, which was performed by the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich under the direction of Paavo Järvi. The profound interpretation captivated the audience and was greeted with enthusiastic applause.
The evening ended with an aperitif riche in the concert foyer. Accompanied by fine Prosecco, selected canapés and generously sponsored pastries and Luxemburgerli from Sprüngli, the guests exchanged their impressions of the evening and enjoyed the company of music enthusiasts. Paavo Järvi and members of the orchestra also joined in the celebrations and contributed to the lively atmosphere.
