Discover the 2024/25 Season

Geographically, the concert programme in the 2024/25 season has an Icelandic focus: as a focus artist, pianist Víkingur Ólafsson will not only perform the two Brahms concertos, but also the Swiss premiere of a new piano concerto by John Adams. He will also give a recital together with Yuja Wang. Composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir will come to Zurich as Creative Chair; a total of nine works by her are on the programme, with her orchestral piece "Archora" opening the season. The second focus artist comes to Zurich from a different direction: the South African soprano Golda Schultz will sing Richard Strauss' "Four Last Songs" on the one hand, while also working on a chamber music programme with orchestral musicians on the other.

Paavo Järvi will continue the Mahler cycle he began last season with Symphonies Nos. 7 and 1. On the other hand, with Shostakovich's Symphonies Nos. 6 and 10, he is setting a second focus, in keeping with the new chamber music Shostakovich cycle: the Jerusalem Quartet will perform all of Shostakovich's string quartets over the next two seasons.

We can also be found outside the Tonhalle Zurich: Tours take us to Spain and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, among other places. Above all, however, we are venturing out into the city: for two days, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich will be performing in Zurich's Münsterhof with the newly founded open-air format tonhalleAIR - both with its own concerts and as a host for other ensembles.

Under the motto "Classic meets ...", we cross borders in all possible directions. In the "classic meets art" series, our musicians perform at Hauser und Wirth and in museums. The film symphony and literature and music series will continue in the coming season. The tonhalleLATE and tonhalleCRUSH formats will also continue.

We are celebrating a special anniversary in October: the "Mittendrin" project, for which around 600 second and fifth graders come to the Tonhalle Zurich every year to develop their own concert programme, has been running for 25 years. For the younger ones, a new chamber music series entitled "Kunterwunderbunt" is being launched in Zurich's community centres.

And what else? There is much to mention. For example, the 2024/25 season features six conducting debuts. You can discover seven up-and-coming talents in the Série jeunes. And the "Connect" dance project for people with Parkinson's or multiple sclerosis will be continued after a successful pilot phase.
