Francis Poulenc's music amazes us. How can one manage to return to this serene, Mozartian simplicity after the monumental pretensions of the 19th century? His sextet is among the most beautiful to be found in wind chamber music. For this timeless musical treasure, Poulenc has undoubtedly earned a place in composer's heaven.
A fresh breeze in composer heaven
Brahms, Beethoven, Wagner, Gluck, Haydn, Bach, Mozart and Handel gather on the ceiling of the Great Tonhalle. Name plaques on the ceiling of the Kleine Tonhalle add Schumann and Mendelssohn to this canon of composers. Since the opening of the Tonhalle in 1895, no composer has been added.
