Wide-eyed and so much to tell – guaranteed with our range of offers for families and children. Because music is a wonderful thing. And because we’re convinced of this, we do a great deal to ensure that even very young concertgoers can experience it. Join us on a voyage of discovery in the fascinating world of music! All concerts for families and children are given on Sundays.
For children from 5 years on
Family Concerts – an experience for all the family
Family Concerts at the Tonhalle Maag combine music with a story or theme. Stories are told between the orchestral pieces, which are usually played by the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich and sometimes by a youth orchestra. The children establish connections, respond to and can thus immerse themselves completely in the music.
Incidentally, there is a very long tradition of family concerts in Zurich: concerts were offered for families as long ago as 1928. They are now given five times per season, mostly on Sundays at 11.15 a.m. and 2.15 p.m.
Chamber Music for Children – musical adventures at the community centre
The eager and always cooperative caretaker Toni (played by Rico Grandjean) would so like to help the musicians of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich. But unfortunately, something always goes wrong… Perhaps the young listeners know what to do?
Chamber concerts for children take place at various community centres in the City of Zurich. One of the Orchestra’s instrument groups is involved each time – the children experience the instruments and musicians at close hand and have so much to discover.
Chamber Music for Children takes place on Sundays at 11.30 a.m., preceded by brunch for all from 10 a.m.
Tickets for these concerts are available exclusively from the respective community centres.
While their parents or grandparents enjoy Chamber Music at 5 in the Johanneskirche, the children join «Chief Commissioner» Sabine Appenzeller on a search for musical evidence. The investigations are held in the foyer of the neighbouring parish hall. Depending on the suspicion and offence, the investigative musical methods can include singing, drawing or dancing.
Admission free for concertgoers’ children. Meet at 4.45 p.m.
In cooperation with the Verein Kulturvermittlung Zürich (Zurich Cultural Education Society), we organise exciting courses for children lasting several days. It isn’t always necessary to travel far to discover new things!
