In 2027, we will also be celebrating the Beethoven Year - with a programme that is as lavish as it is varied.
For some, Beethoven is a revolutionary, for others a titan. Both are true. He certainly composed the most famous humanist hit with his "Ode to Joy" and was always ahead of his time. He was regarded as a force of nature, as gruff and impetuous as his music, which continues to fascinate to this day. 2027 marks the 200th anniversary of his death in the music world. Time for our orchestra, which has made a name for itself under the direction of David Zinman with its recordings of Beethoven's symphonies since 2000, to devote itself to this artist once again.
Under the motto BTHVN27, we are presenting very different genres and formats. The piano concertos (with Rudolf Buchbinder) and the string quartets (with the Belcea Quartet and the Quatuor Ébène) will be performed as complete cycles. Paavo Järvi conducts Symphony No. 7 and No. 9 in the version by Gustav Mahler, as well as the "Missa solemnis". Igor Levit plays two sonata recitals, and our musicians also put Beethoven centre stage in the chamber music matinees they have programmed. There will also be the family concert "The Magic Gate", which will also feature a special visual design.
The concerts will be complemented by a supporting programme, which will be published at a later date.
