‘Boost’ is the title of the orchestral work with which the Swiss composer Dieter Ammann makes his debut as Creative Chair. The title is fitting for this energetic, yet meticulously crafted music. And it suits the season opener as a whole: the Georgian pianist and new ‘Focus Artist’, Khatia Buniatishvili, will also demonstrate just how much driving passion there is in her playing in Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1. And then Paavo Järvi will also be conducting Scriabin’s ‘Poème de l’extase’: a sensual yet deeply contemplative work inspired by a poem of his own. ‘The spirit / Spurred on by a thirst for life / Soars on a bold flight’ are the opening lines – the new season is ready to take off!\n\nPjotr I.
