Even rock stars like to attend a concert by a string quartet. At least Elvis Costello did - and was very enthusiastic about the Brodsky Quartet playing Shostakovich. They then got together and the result was the joint concept album "The Juliet Letters" (1993). Now our focus artist Golda Schultz is performing some songs from this album together with a string quartet from our orchestra. It is about an impossible love, the lyrics are imaginary letters to the protagonist from Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet". And a mysterious relationship also characterises the rest of the programme: researchers are still puzzling over what Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms had in common.
