SUMMARY:Chamber music matinee
DESCRIPTION:Mozart reported to his father after the premiere in 1784 that the Piano Quintet K. 452 had received "extraordinary acclaim"; he considered it "the best thing I have written in my life". One thing is certain: the quintet combines concertante and chamber music elements, the wind sounds and the piano in an extremely successful way. It also inspired Beethoven, who wrote his Piano Quintet op. 16 in the same key of E flat major and for the same instrumentation. A few quotations from Mozart operas can also be found in the work. At the same time, however, Beethoven also energetically set himself apart from his predecessor: with powerful piano writing, brusque wind accents and almost symphonic thematic processes.\n\nLudwig van Beethoven Klavierquintett Es-Dur op. 16\n\nWolfgang Amadeus Mozart Klavierquintett Es-Dur KV 452
